Salihu Tanko Yakasai, former Special Adviser to Kano State Governor has said the APC can not give the South East the Presidential ticket.
NEWS MAIL NG reports that the Yakasai shared his opinion while speaking on ARISE TV this morning. Yakasai said if the South West doesn’t get it then its likely going to the South South.
He said this is because there is no unity among the APC South East Governors and their followers.
Yakasai, who spoke on Arise Tv morning show said: “As far as I am concerned, I have not seen any indication that the APC is going to field any candidate from the Southeast and I don’t think that is going to happen.
“Even if Southwest does not get it, to be honest, I don’t see the APC giving it to anybody from the Southeast, maybe the South-South but definitely not the Southeast.”
Yakasai who is popularly known on Twitter as Dawisu said the South East lacked the numbers to produce a Nigerian President.
“In the Southeast, they keep agitating individually but they have not come together collectively to show a unified front to the rest of the country that they are indeed ready for this presidency. There is no unity among the governors, there is no unity among the political elite and there is no unity among the followers. And unfortunately for them, they do not have the numbers, which means that they need the support of one or two regions”, Yakasai added.
Reacting, Jare Jide, a public affairs analyst said Yakasai only expressed his personal opinion.
Jide said the APC National Congress would determine which zone would produce the party’s presidential candidate.
He, however, said Nigerians may be shocked that a Southeasterner might emerge as an APC candidate.
“I think that is just his own opinion, APC can come up with anything, let’s wait after their Congress.
“APC has strong politicians from the Southeast, they may surprise Nigerians in 2023. So, let’s keep watching as things unfold,” .
